William J Ramsay lives and works as an abstract fine artist in the small ex-mining village of Murton, County Durham which is in the North-East of England. William’s passion for art started at a very early age in the form of drawing and it is this foundation of interest that has seen art become a constant focus within his life and in recent years develop and contribute towards his hard-edge painting process, and the exploration of both sculpture and site-specific wall installations.
William graduated and received his bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Sunderland in the summer of 2018, and weeks later travelled out to Salzburg, Austria to take part in Roche Continents 2018 after being selected as 1 of 100 students from across Europe to be awarded this experience.
The artistic focus and interest behind William’s work lies within the modernist aesthetic of hard-edge painting, geometric abstraction, and the minimalist movement with the creative intention to develop the basic concepts of visual aesthetics: line, colour, form, perspective, space, and scale. Using these fundamental elements he aims to explore, interpret, and communicate the architectural spaces and cityscapes he experiences and aspects of design/art he finds inspiration within.
Due to the visually hard-edge, reductive style of his work, there is always a strong emphasis upon the overall precision of the artwork as he strives to achieve the perfect composition. Communicating the sense of perspective and clean lines that is often found within architectural spaces.
This mindset and creative focus have previously resulted in both minimal and complex outcomes, all of which is documented and can be found on William’s Instagram: @espy_artistry
